Special Session - April 13, 2016

The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on April 13, 2016 in a Special Session meeting at the Professional Learning Room, Partnership Center, Tama, Iowa at 5:40 p.m.


On call of the roll the following were present:  Michelle Yuska, Mark McFate, Alan Kline, Jackie Dvorak and Penny Tyynismaa.  Quorum Present.         

Also present were: Mary Jones, Mary Boege, Rhonda Shaw, Steve McAdoo, Joyce Wiese and Nick Hildebrandt


Motion by Dvorak, second by McFate to approve the agenda.  All Ayes.


Public Comments:

Michelle Yuska congratulated Joyce and Dallas Wiese on their 65th Wedding Anniversary.


Motion by Dvorak, second by Kline to approve the following personnel requests as presented. All Ayes

Sarah Mallen - HS Social Studies, Kaylin Meck - 4th Grade, Molly McCreary - Elementary Special Education, Heather Chamberlain - HS Biology, Mike Stein - Asst Varsity Football Coach.

Internal Transfers - Ellen Moran - MS Behavior Interventionist to HS Behavior Interventionist.

T.L.C. Model Teachers - Heather Garrett, Alice Koch, Marilyn Rippy, Amy Stewart, Jon Huebner, George Kuhter, Paula Miller, Karen Mixdorf, Amy Stotts, Chelsea Ahrens, Scott Bolen, Emily Chyma, Nancy Dostal, Dixie Forcht, Debra Lacina, Katie Murphy, Deanna Zmolek.

Motion by Kline, second by Dvorak to approve the FY 17 Budget as published and after the State makes the final adjustments for the 2.25% SSA the final tax rate will be no higher than the current years rate of 16.13.  All Ayes.


Motion by Tyynismaa, second by Dvorak to approve the election results from the April 5, 2016 Revenue Purpose Statement vote with 362 yes votes and 211 no votes.  All Ayes.


Motion by Kline, second by McFate to approve the final design of the High School Addition and Remodel.  All Ayes.


Motion by Dvorak, second by McFate to publish the Notice to Bidders for the HS Addition and Remodel and to set a Public Hearing for the Proposed Public Improvements on May 16, 2016 at 5:30 P.M. at the Partnership Center 215 W 9th Street Tama, IA.  All Ayes.


Motion by Tyynismaa, second by Dvorak to approve the asbestos removal bid at the high school from Advanced Environmental of $24,300 with adjustments to be made for areas that will not be included that were in the original bid.


Mark McFate updated the Board on the possibility of using some of the school property by the Middle School for a Dog Park.  Several concerns were discussed with more information to be gathered.


Superintendent Jones discussed the SAVE Legislation and upcoming board presentations that will be English Language Acquisition Program on April 18, 2016, Authentic Intellectual Work on May 2, 2016 and Career Technical Education on May 16, 2016


Motion by Tyynismaa, second by Dvorak  to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 p.m. into an exempt session for negotiations.   All Ayes.
