REGULAR SESSION

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE

COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SOUTH TAMA COUNTY

 

The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on December 18, 2017 in Regular Session at the Partnership Center, Tama, Iowa at 5:30 p.m.

 

On call of the roll the following were present:  Alan Kline, Penny Tyynismaa,  Jackie Dvorak, Ronald Houghton and Mandy Lekin.  Quorum Present.

 

Also present were: Jeff Berger, Mary Boege, John Speer, Kym Stein, Janette Stacy, Karen Mixdorf and Jon Huebner.

 

Motion by Kline second by Lekin to approve the agenda.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Kline to approve the consent agenda approving the minutes of the November 20, 2017, and December 4, 2017 meetings, financials, bills for payment as presented and an Early Graduation request for A.P.

 

Public Comments - None

 

Special Education Director Kym Stein and Superintendent Berger updated the Board on the Special Education Program.

 

Motion by Lekin, second by Dvorak to approve the following personnel requests as presented.  All Ayes

 

Officials - Don Anderson - Volleyball, Greg Davies - Volleyball, Dennis Dirks - Volleyball, Brian Guilford - Volleyball, David Lee - Cross Country, Charles Liston - Volleyball, Kevin Long - Volleyball, Lois Long - Volleyball, David Rhine - Volleyball, Glen Taylor - Basketball, Jeremy Weiermann- Basketball.

Resignations - Patty Dilly - HS Special Education Aide.

 

Motion by Kline second by Houghton to approve the Retirement Incentive Policy with an annual payment maximum of $7,500.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Kline to table the purchase of a district license from Remind until further information can be obtained.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Houghton to approve the purchase of two score tables for the high school gym from GV Pro for $5,366.00.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Lekin, second by Dvorak to approve the second reading of the following Board Policies.  All Ayes

Superintendent Berger reviewed with the Board the draft copy of the District Employee Handbook.  It will be brought back to the board for approval in January.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Lekin to go into closed session at 6:41 p.m. as provided in Section 21.5(1) (i) of the Open Meeting Law to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose performance is being considered to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation, as that individual has requested a closed session.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Kline to come out of closed session at 8:13 p.m.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Dvoark, second by Houghton to adjourn the meeting at 8:14 p.m.  All Ayes.
