REGULAR SESSION

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE

COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SOUTH TAMA COUNTY

 

The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on October 22, 2018 in Regular Session at the Meskwaki Tribal Center, Tama, Iowa at 5:30 p.m.

 

On call of the roll the following were present:   Jackie Dvorak, Ron Houghton, Alan Kline, and Penny Tyynismaa.  Absent: Mandy Lekin.  Quorum Present.

 

Also present were: Jared Smith, Mary Boege, Heather Garrett, John Speer, Kris Collins, Mel Davenport, Allison Graham, Tony Waseskuk and Mike Canning.

 

Motion by Houghton second by Dvorak to approve the agenda.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Dvoark to approve the consent agenda approving the minutes of the September 24, 2018 and October 8, 2018 meetings, financials, bills for payment as presented and Early Graduation Requests for C.P. and A.M.   All Ayes.

 

Public Comments - None

 

Mike Canning from Meskwaki Inc presented to the board on the businesses that they are currently operating.

 

Kris Collins presented to the board on the Title VI activities that are being done in the schools.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Houghton to approve the following personnel requests as presented.  All Ayes

 

Contracts - Justin Suchanek - Assistant MS Wrestling

Officiating - Thad Espencheid - Basketball, Keith Hartgrave - Volleyball, Charles Liston - Volleyball Dave Mohr - Volleyball, Deidra Mohr - Volleyball

Volunteers - Darvin Graham - Large Group Speech

Termination - James Rajtora - HS Head Custodian

Resignations - Corinne Bradley - HS Paraeducator

 

Motion by Kline, second by Dvoark to approve the Impact Aid Indian Policies and Procedures for.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Houghton, second by Kline to approve the addition of a MS Guidance Counselor position.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Dvorak to approve the request to host the H.S. Thespian Leadership Day in August 2019.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Houghton to approve the request to the SBRC for Modified Allowable Growth  in the amount of $108,653.82 for the LEP Allowable Costs.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Dvorak to approve the fundraising requests for the Winter Dance/Guard Club.  All Ayes. 

 

Motion by Houghton, second by Kline to approve the Memorandum of Understanding with MICA.  All Ayes.

 

Motion by Kline, second by Dvorak to approve the Superintendent's Goals for 2018-2019.  All Ayes.

 

Discussion was held on the addition of a Community Liaison Position for the MS/HS that would be funded with Migrant Funds, the addition of a School Resource Officer and a school survey that will be done in conjunction with Meskwaki Schools.

 

Motion by Dvorak, second by Kline to adjourn the meeting at 7:13 p.m.  All Ayes.
