The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Garrett Arp.  Garrett is a 7th grader at STC.  He is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

The 2014-15 winter season has been a busy one for Garrett. He started off on the mat and is now showing his talents on the hardwood. Garrett has been an instrumental part of the Trojan basketball team.

Garrett is an active middle schooler. He participates in football, wrestling, basketball, baseball, track and field, student council, and band. Outside of school he is involved in his church youth group. He likes to play video games, pick-up basketball games with friends, and watch T.V.

Garrett has proved to be an accomplished student in the classroom as well. He has been an Honor Roll student during his time at the middle school and is an academic award medalist. Garrett has also challenged himself with his involvement in the STC STEP Program.

Garrett is the son of Tanya and Jason Arp of Toledo.

The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Brandon Senethavysouk.  Brandon is an 8th grader at STC.  He is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

With the end of the 2015 basketball season approaching, Brandon has been a constant lockdown defender during the season. He demonstrates the attributes that all coaches look for in their athletes.  He has a positive attitude, integrity, and a hard work ethic. The Trojans will look for Brandon to help the Trojans finish the year strong.

Brandon has enjoyed his time at the middle school and enjoyed being a part of STC athletics. He is involved in basketball, baseball, and fitness. Outside of school, he likes to hang out with friends and play video games.

Brandon has proved to be a hard working student in the classroom as well. He has been an Honor Roll student during his time at the middle school and is an academic award medalist.

Brandon is the son of Bounchanh Phetsomphou and Jerold Vickers of Toledo.

The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight swings to Wes Upah.  Wes is a 7th grader at STC.  He is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

Wes has been a pivotal and contributing member of Trojan squad. “He always has a great attitude and work ethic when it comes to practice. He is always here and giving his best effort” commented Coach Anderson.  

Wes enjoys being an active middle schooler. He is involved in football, baseball, and band. He is also involved in his church. 

Wes’s work ethic has been shown in the classroom as well. He is an academic award recipient and honor roll student.

Wes is the son of Todd and Nicole Upah of Toledo.

Starting the 2nd half of the winter season, the South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Cameron Klostermann.  Cameron is an 8th grader at STC.  He is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

Cameron has shined as a team leader and a hard worker during the first weeks of 2015 basketball campaign. The Trojans will look for Cameron’s quickness, poise, and leadership on the court as an important key to their success this winter.

Cameron is an active middle schooler. In addition to his time on the hardwood, he is involved in football, baseball, and track & field. He is an AWANA youth assistant and likes to go kayaking, hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoys playing some Xbox with friends during his free time.

Cameron has proved to be an accomplished student in the classroom as well. He’s a STEP, Academic Award recipient, and Honor Roll student during his 3 years at the middle school.  

Cameron is the son of Ron and Teresa Klostermann of Toledo.

Tonight the South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Cael Kellogg.  Cael is an 8th grader at STC.  He is a grappler for the Trojan wrestling team.

Cael participates in football and baseball in addition to wrestling.  In school, Cael has proved to be a great student as well, receiving academic awards and being named to the honor roll. “He has a good understanding of the sport.  Cael has that motivation and willingness to learn and better himself which is going to take him far in life.  He has improved greatly from last season to now.” commented Coach Chyma about Cael.

Cael has ran his season record to 11-6 with 10 pins and has been an instrumental leader for the Trojan wrestling team.

Cael is involved in youth group at New Hope. He enjoys spending time out doors fishing and hunting and playing Xbox with friends.

Cael is the son of Heath and Lana Kellogg of Toledo.

This week, the South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight swings to Jaelin Berger.  Jaelin is an 8th grader at STC.  She is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

The 2014 Lady Trojans season has been a successful one with the help of Jaelin’s talents. “She has been a player that has grown a lot as a ball player and performed her role on the team nicely. She has a real love for the game”, commented Coach Wanatee.

Jaelin is an active middle schooler. In addition to basketball, she is involved in band, softball, track & field, and volleyball. She is a member of Pam’s School of Dance, plays AAU volleyball, and suits up for the Iowa Intensity basketball team as well. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with friends and family and hoarse back riding.

Jaelin has proved to be a hard working and talented student in the classroom as well. She has received various academic awards and been named to the honor roll in her three years at the middle school.

Jaelin is the daughter of Julie Berger of rural Tama.

The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Tanner Walz.  Tanner is an 8th grader at STC.  He is a “WOW” (Wrestler of the Week) for the Trojan wrestling team.

Tanner participates in football as a runningback & linebacker, track and field as a sprinter and discus thrower, and baseball as a 3rd baseman in addition to his time that he spends on the mat.  In school, Tanner has proved to be a great student as well, receiving silver and bronze academic awards.

“Tanner has stepped up and become a leader in the practice room.  He has an understanding of the team concept and pushes his teammates to do their best each and every day. With his drive and willingness, he will be successful and be a good leader for others to follow.” Commented Coach Chyma.

Tanner has ran his season record to 11-2. He enjoys spending time our doors and he likes to hunt in his free time.

Tanner Walz is the son of Tim and Candi Walz of rural Tama.

The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight swings to Makayla Backen.  Makayla is a 7th grader at STC.  She is a wing for the Trojan basketball team.

With the girls basketball season a few weeks from coming to an end, Makayla has developed into a lock down defender and helped the 7th grade squad fend off a Vinton team in the closing minutes for an important road win. “She is the go-to girl for keeping the team positive, hustling, and composed”, said Coach Van Zante when asked what Makayla brings to the team.

Makayla is an active middle schooler. In addition to basketball, she is involved in softball, track & field, volleyball, band, and participates in cheer camp. She is involved in her church confirmation group, enjoys dancing, being with friends, and shopping during her free time from her busy schedule.

Away from the hardwood, Makayla is a standout student in the classroom. She is a Gold Academic Award recipient and Honor Roll student during her two years at the middle school. She has received the Kiwanis Golden Ruler Award for her hard work as a sixth grader in 2013-14.

Makayla is the daughter of Trever and Holly Backen of rural Tama.

This week, the South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Enriqueta Deigo.  Enriqueta “Queta” is an 8th grader at STC.  She is a guard for the Trojan basketball team.

Queta has developed into a team leader and a hard worker during the first weeks of 2014 basketball campaign. The lady Trojans will look for Queta’s talent and leadership on the court as an important key to their success this winter.

Queta is an active middle schooler. In addition to basketball, she is involved in band, softball, track & field, and represents her class on student council. She enjoys drawing, listening to music and going to her siblings’ activities during her free time.

Queta has proved to be an accomplished student in the classroom as well. She’s a STEP, Academic Award recipient, and Honor Roll student during her 3 years at the middle school. She has received the Kiwanis Golden Ruler Award and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average so far during her 8th grade year.

 Queta is the daughter of Melinda Diego of Toledo.

The South Tama County Middle School Student-Athlete Spotlight is on Kaitlyn Riha.  Kaitlyn is a 7th grader at STC.  She is a point guard for the Trojan basketball team.

With the start of the 2014 basketball season here, Kaitlyn has developed into a true leader on and off the court. In practice, she leads by example by doing everything with 100% effort. “Katie is constantly pushing to make herself and her teammates better while on the basketball court, and is a great asset for the team.” says Coach Van Zante. The lady Trojans will look for Kaitlyn to develop a strong presence as a ball handler and outside shooter.

Kaitlyn is an active middle schooler. In addition to basketball, she is involved in volleyball, softball, track & field, and Friends for Change. She is a member of Pam’s School of Dance and enjoys drawing and dancing in her free time.

Kaitlyn has proved to be an accomplished student in the classroom as well. She has been an Honor Roll student during her 2 years at the middle school. She is an academic award medalist. Even with her busy schedule, Kaitlyn has maintained a 4.0 grade point average.  

Kaitlyn is the middle daughter of Vicki and Rich Riha of rural Tama. Her sisters, Alexis and Breanna, join her in the middle school.
