Wednesday (12/2) afternoon the STC 8th grade class attended a pep assembly that was held by Marshalltown Community College. MCC student-athletes, staff, and even the Tiger mascot were on hand to chat with students about many of the programs and opportunities that can be available in college. The group from MCC also included several former South Tama students who have gone on to study and even start a career at the community college. STC alums included Jose Alcazar ('15), Lisa Morrow ('15), Vincent Lasley ('12), and Tyler Slagle ('04).

The assembly was a kick off to what will be a semester long initiative to help build and nurture a college-going culture at STC based on early college awareness.

Throughout next semester MCC will be visiting STCMS with different academic departments and engaging groups of students with hands on activities. This will help to expose students to career and college opportunities they hadn't considered before.
