We have received calls and questions about the incident that occurred at the High School Friday. A 9th grader at the High School did make serious verbal threats Friday.
The threats were not directed to any individuals. There was no written
hit list. Our students did a great job of letting our administrators
know about the situation quickly. We had the Tama Police help us
determine the credibility of the threat and it was determined that, at
that time, the threat was not credible. The student was detained by
Police and appropriate school discipline was administered. While
we addressed the issue quickly and effectively, it is clear that we
need to keep lines of communication open. As a result, we will review
our emergency procedures so that in the future, you have the confidence
that we are keeping you informed. We want all students to feel safe in
our schools. We will continue to monitor this situation and, if we
believe additional threats exist, we will communicate that with you
directly and quickly. Thank you and please contact Jeff Berger directly if you
have additional concerns or questions. |
