Literacy

The Literacy Department (grades 6-12) met with Allison Zmuda, an ASCD Consultant, on September 25th to broaden their definition of literacy and conceptualize teaching for understanding. Teaching for Understanding is defined as one of five effective characteristics of instruction by the Iowa Core Curriculum. While this is just an initial effort to discuss some of the effective characteristics of instruction, important work emerged that was captured in these documents.
