Greetings South Tama County School District!!
My name is Jared Smith, and I am entering my 4th year as Superintendent at STC. Time has flown by! I am proud of the progress we have made, and am confident that we will continue to do amazing things. Even with the difficulty of dealing with COVID and our middle school being closed for a year, we continue to do great things for our students.
First, a little bit about me. I hold a BA in Elementary and Middle Level Education from the University of Northern Iowa, an MS in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Iowa State University. I have taught and coached at both the middle school and high school levels. Prior to taking this role, I worked as an assistant principal and principal for ten years.
I spend a lot of my free time blogging on leadership, education, and personal growth. I host an educational leadership podcast called The Group Project Podcast, and recently released my first book - Learning Curve: Lessons Learned on Leadership, Education, and Personal Growth.
Here at STC, we believe that every student has a plan. This means that regardless of student background or educational history, we commit to giving our students an opportunity to do what they love and guide them toward living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
To meet our goal, our district is committed to our five strategic anchors. Those are as follows:
- Attract & Retain Great Staff
- Guarantee Exceptional Learning Opportunities
- Emphasize Data and Measure Progress
- Inspire Success and Share OUR Story
- Cultivate a Culture of Excellence
We believe if we do these five things consistently over time, we will experience great success.

Thanks so much … and GO TROJANS!!!
