Congratulations to South Tama Elementary on earning the Iowa STEM Scale-Up Grant Award for the 2018-19 school year! We are very excited to have received this grant for the 2018-19 school year and the resources and training it will provide our staff and students to grow in the realm of STEAM learning. Kris Collins, Assistant Principal at STC Elementary submitted the grant application in March, and the district received confirmation of approval of the grant award April 10th.

Each year school districts across Iowa may apply to their area Regional Advisory Board of Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council for STEM Scale-Up Program Grants. The grants support implementation of small scale STEM programs that can be introduced into classrooms, or school wide initiatives. This year application was made and approved for a program to be implemented at the STC Elementary called Making STEM Connections.

Making STEM Connections will be transitioned into a MakerSpace program already in the works at STC Elementary through a before school program that students access in the school media center with Ms. Heather Garrett, the Media Specialist. Making STEM Connections will supplement the MakerSpace exploration time for students as a great extension to current STEM topics.
